This eye idol was found with an alabaster cylinder seal that has incised concentric “eye” patterns. The exact use of these idols is unknown, but it is assumed they were a type of votive offering. Many examples have multiple sets of eyes, as in this sculpture, some have pointed heads that may be interpreted as hats. Sometimes, as in this example, the lower body was decorated with an overall dot pattern which is thought to represent a skirt. (M.E.L. Mallowan 1947:33-34)
