Anthony Meyer says these pieces are from the Wiru people, Pangia area, Southern Highlands. Known as timbuwars, which means ‘spear of the door,’ they are said to be attached to the doorway of the Men’s House. They are also said to be worn on top of the heads of participants in fertiltiy ceremonies. Thirdly, they are also said to represent a man’s deceased wife, and were kept in the Men’s House where friends and relatives could pay their respects.” (Meyer 1995: 304)”
